Happy Firefighter Friday!
I love ranch dressing, as does my fireboy. It’s his favorite dressing, and he used to only eat salads drenched with the creamy emulsion….
…today he’s matured…kind of…
…he still loves his cold cereal, and protein takes precedence over vegetables, but he categorically WON’T eat the typical ranch dressings sold at grocery stores, which are loaded with soybean oil, maltodextrin, and sugar!
- 1 small garlic clove
- 1 T. scallion (the dark green portion)
- 1 T. fresh parsley
- 1 t. lemon juice
- 4 T. avocado
- ⅓ c. buttermilk (add 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a measuring cup and add enough almond milk to equal ⅓ cup; let sit 5 minutes)
- ⅓ c. plain yogurt (I use Fage 2% greek yogurt, but any kind will work)
- ¼ t. salt
- ¼ t. black pepper
- ¼ t. onion powder
- Add the garlic and scallion greens to a food processor, and pulse a few times.
- Add the remaining ingredients.
- Process until evenly combined.
Pour this onto a bed of crisp lettuce or use it as a delicious dip for fresh veggies….
…..perfection!
What are your favorite salad toppings?
I love a combination of various fresh veggies, a dried fruit, and a nut or seed (my favorite is roasted sunflower seeds).

Yum! Looking forward to making this!!
I have been searching for a stevia sweetened “syrup” to replace honey/maple syrup/agave/coconut nectar in recipes. Do you have any idea how to make this?
Thanks!!!
Hmmm…I don’t offhand, but let me mull it over a bit, and I’ll see if I can come up with something!
I don’t even like ranch dressing, but this is pretty intriguing and it looks like the real stuff–only better! What a great recipe Lauren~because I think it’s genius to add greek yogurt and healthified buttermilk.

Thanks Ellie! It’s good to ‘see’ you!
Looks great! I’m not a ranch or mayo fan, but this looks good!

I just stumbled upon your site and the recipes
are intriguing. I’m a longtime vegetarian but have
recently embraced the vegan lifestyle which is
challenging for a baker. Can’t wait to try the double
chocolate cookies. I think the ranch dressing recipe
maybe mislabeled as vegan since it uses Greek
yogurt. Unless there is a plain soy Greek yogurt
that can be used. Thanks for sharing so many great
recipe ideas.
I labeled it that way because of the alternative yogurts, such as those made from almond and coconut milks. They can easily be substituted here.
Thanks for visiting!
How long will this last in the fridge? I love making my own dressings but like things that will last a while in the fridge so I don’t have to make it every time. thanks!
Hi Jessica,
I’d guess about 5 days or so.
