Doncha love the ‘secret ingredient’ teaser?
Though it’s a bit hackneyed at this point, it still gets me when I see it!
I wish this shake had its own theme song that I could play.
Ozzy’s ‘Crazy Train’ would be a great fit, but just the first 30 seconds of the song (I love that guitar intro). 🙂
Don’t you sometimes wish life had a soundtrack?
Like when you’re falling in love, Mazzy Star’s ‘Fade Into You’ would suddenly ensue….or you’re feeling like a badass driving down the road, Kenny Loggins ‘Danger Zone’ would kick in for the world to hear and take notice of your awesomeness?
I used to be one of ‘those kids’ that would walk around with my headphones permanently in my earholes.
Songs from artists like Metallica, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pearl Jam would be on literal repeat, as I walked down the street or even drove in my car. They gave me physical chills that I wanted to experience over and over again….
There are recipes like that too…you know, recipes you want to make again and again and again.
Before I post anything on this site, I always ask myself if this is something I would want to make again in the future?
If the answer is no, I don’t post it.
I’m not a big fan of just experimenting to experiment with food, though I did do that initially with this blog.
Food can be wonderfully creative, but at the end of the day, I want to make the kind of recipes that people want as a staple in their kitchen.
This shake has become just that.
- ½ c. pumpkin puree
- 2 T. raw walnuts
- 2 T. cocoa powder
- 4 Medjool dates
- 1 T. honey or maple syrup
- ½ t. vanilla
- 1/16 t. powdered stevia extract (or another tablespoon of honey/maple syrup)
- 1 c. milk of your choice
- tiny pinch sea salt
- dash cinnamon
- 1 c. ice
- Blend all until thick and creamy.
If you have allergies or kids with allergies, just leave the walnuts out. My girls still love it!
The added ‘secret ingredient’ pumpkin in this recipe adds a creamy, thick texture, along with a delicious flavor, making it a great replacement for bananas and avocados…and it’s low in both calories and fat!
Have you brought out the pumpkin this year? What type of music do you listen to?
