This one’s for all you pumpkin pie lovers out there…
This shake is literally like drinking pumpkin pie, hence the name. It took a few tries to get the spice mix just right, which is actually really important to me when working with anything containing more than a couple of spices.
Everyone has their own idea about what pumpkin pie spice contains, many claiming cardamom belongs in the mix, a feeling I don’t concur with. Cardamom is more for apples, in my opinion.
Food as a whole has become quite controversial, hasn’t it? I’ve literally seen people threatened on social media for not adhering to others’ particular way of eating, and while I know there are those that eat for reasons other than health, they have to realize their diet isn’t necessarily for everyone.
When my husband and I first started living together, I was a bit militant in my assessment of his eating. I used to constantly nag him about not eating enough vegetables, drinking too much milk, or eating too much red meat. I was a pleasure, I’m sure.
What I came to realize, however, was that he’s not me. His body works in a completely different way than mine, and with his job and workout schedule, he actually thrives off of foods like steak, whereas I have cut it out for almost a year now because of its effect on my digestion.
We’re all so unique and tolerate foods in our own way. What makes one person energetic and full of happiness may make another itchy and scratchy.
Our household is full of conflicting allergies and tolerances. When I make a meal on a day everyone is home, it has to be wheat-free, milk-free, and nut-free, and if I make chili, I make myself something without red meat. The complications go on all day, but we all work together so that everyone can eat something they like without reacting to it.
Pumpkin is one of the foods that is loved across the board here (so far!). The biggest issue with it is my semi-intolerance, which has been remedied a bit since I found this…
Pumpkin in a box! I love this stuff, and I can eat it so much better than the stuff in the can, which goes for tomatoes as well. 🙂
This shake makes a great morning smoothie or even afternoon snack, which is how we all enjoyed it one day. I even topped it with a little whipped cream, making it that much more scrumptious for our girls!

- ¼ t. nutmeg
- (scant) ¼ t. ginger
- ⅛ t. cloves
- 2 soft dates
- dash salt

A perfect fix for anytime a pumpkin pie craving strikes!
