Pouring chocolate milk into a glass.

All of the Goslin children love chocolate milk, so what’s a healthy mom to do but make her own version!

I came up with this over the summer, tweaking and perfecting it to my kids’ tastes. What’s great is that this needs NO chocolate syrup, and it comes together in minutes in the blender.

Not wanting a dull, thin consistency, I’ve also added a special healthy ingredient to give it a luscious thickness. The kids can’t taste it, and it adds nutrition that gives them energy and good fats for the day!

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Milk of your choice – I love using raw cow’s milk for this, but any milk will suffice.
  • Cocoa powder
  • Sweetener – Honey, maple syrup, and coconut sugar all work great.
  • Sea salt – Just a pinch to bring out the flavors.
  • Avocado – Secret ingredient alert! Just a tablespoon adds a rich, thick consistency that can’t be beat!
  • Vanilla extract
  • Ice

Directions

Add everything but the ice and blend until smooth. Taste the milk for sweetness and add more, as desired.

Add in the ice and blend again until smooth.

Recipe tips

I’ve used all different sweeteners with great results, including coconut sugar, maple syrup, and honey.

If you want to lower the sweetener, you can do two teaspoons and add in a few drops of stevia instead.
