This rich and creamy chocolate milkshake is made without bananas! Avocado makes it thick, while dates provide all the sweetness.

This recipe is actually from the way way back...circa 2013-ish?

It was in desperate need of an update, so here it is all brand spanking new for your enjoyment!

Because of our rampant banana allergies over here, avocado has been a God send! When added to smoothies and shakes, it makes them very thick, which is the ideal texture for yours truly.

Combined with a sweetener of some kind, in this case dates, you sort of replicate what bananas do without the banana taste. Ya feel me?

Chocolate milkshake topped with cacao nibs.

The cinnamon and vanilla both add depth to the flavor, and the dash of salt balances out the sweetness. I always add a dash of sea salt when I make any type of avocado smoothie!

The original recipe called for one tablespoon of nut or seed butter, but over the years, I've found two tablespoons of nuts or seeds to be a better replacement. I always have loose walnuts or hemp seeds on hand, but rarely walnut or hemp seed butter. You can also try peanut butter, though I haven't done this myself yet!

Can I also brag and tell you that I shared a version of this on a local Tucson morning show? Eye roll for the shameless plug, but here's the video in case anyone is interested!

This version is made with honey, if you prefer to use that as your sweetener. 🙂

However you make it, I hope you enjoy this creamy chocolate 'milkshake'!

This shake has been in Rotation again as my 11yo has been wanting a tasty way to cool off on a hot Kansas day.

It can be made with bananas, we prefer frozen but unfrozen works if that's what you have. We are big fans of using what you have!

        Hi Iris,

The point of this shake was actually to eliminate the banana, so I don't know. There are tons of other recipes on the web for ones with it though, so you may want to check out one of those.

Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering iff you knew of any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically
tweet my newest twitter updates. I've been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was hoping
maybe you would have some experience with something like
this. Please let me know if you run into anything.
I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.

Wow, this sounds delicious.. It's similar to a smoothie I like to make, so I will definitely try it. Thanks for linking up to Healthy 2day Wednesday; see you next week.

This looks fantastic! I've recently been experimenting with removing bananas from my diet and been adding avocado to smoothies- so decadent and creamy!
