Nothing beats a hearty bowl of porridge, especially in cooler months.
Warm, creamy oatmeal with all of its accoutrements can substitute as dessert for me on certain days. I love it so!
My daughters love it as well, and though I often make it for them for breakfast, Jade has been showing signs lately of having an allergy to oats. The horror, I know!
Poor girl, her allergies are worse than my own, though they do seem to be improving with age, which is a positive.
In light of Jadie's sensitivity, I have turned to other grains that I can use to make a creamy, hot cereal in the morning.
Just like her mommy, she tolerates pretty much any form of rice as well as quinoa quite well, so I've had my sights set on them as alternatives for her.
Because of her aversion to the taste of quinoa, however, I've been focusing on using short-grain brown rice, which has a slightly sweeter taste than the long-grain.
I just blitz the grain in my coffee grinder until it's pretty much a powder and then cook it in some water, milk, or a combination of the two.
It has been an awesome breakfast for my girls, and one that they both enjoy and tolerate well, especially when it's mixed with their favorite toppings.
I mentioned a while back that the company truRoots had reached out to me regarding creating a few recipes around some of their products, so when they recently sent me their Sprouted Rice and Quinoa Medley, I knew it would be a great way to showcase the recipe for Jade's hot cereal.
The blend is a combination of brown rice, red rice, wild rice, and quinoa, and because the quinoa is mixed with rice, Jade is none the wiser about its presence, teehee.
Of course, if you don't have this particular blend, just use rice or even make your own blend by mixing a few handfuls of various grains together that you enjoy.
The truRoots product is different in that the grains are sourced from the highest quality farms and they are already sprouted, which saves the buyer the time of doing it themselves and also aids with digestion.

Fantastic idea!! As I don't tolerate oats well either, I'm looking forward to having this as a warm nourishing breakfast. And, the best part is, is that I have a bag of truRoots Sprouted rice & quinoa blend already in my cupboard! YEAH!
