It’s definitely been awhile since my last Friday Finds, so for those of you that don’t know, Friday Finds is a segment on the blog where I write about what I’m enjoying lately.
It’s akin to discovering something new in your life, and wanting to share it with your best friend, except, for me, I share it here!
I’m not connected to any of these companies, though I do sometimes add an affiliate link to Amazon.
Basically, though, my goal is to (hopefully) share helpful or interesting information!
1. Pencil sharpener
With the girls starting school, and the pencil shavings a-flowin’, I wanted to purchase a good electric sharpener for them.
Is it just me, or does Jade look 20 here? And buff?
This thing has been great, so far. We initially bought a manual sharpener, but quickly found that it had its share of issues, including the mounting and the fact that it wouldn’t hold together during use.
This sharpener works very well, sharpening each pencil or colored pencil in just a few seconds. It’s also electric, so no need for batteries!
I really have no complaints, other than the kids tend to OVER sharpen their pencils now because they enjoy using it so much.
2. A good, cheap mouthwash
I was on a holistic dentist’s site the other day, where she had a list of uses for hydrogen peroxide.
She suggested rinsing your mouth with straight hydrogen peroxide for ten minutes to achieve whiter, healthier teeth.
Because I have sensitive teeth, I mix about 1/2 cup of water with a capful of 3% peroxide. I’ve noticed my mouth feels fresher, and my teeth have been a bit LESS sensitive lately!
Cheap, easy, and effective!
3. If you like scary movies…
With Halloween on the horizon, perhaps you’re looking for a good thriller?
More than a thriller, the movie Hereditary had me almost weeping, cringing, and covering my eyes. BOTH my husband and I were afraid to go to sleep that night, it was so scary!!
We rented this from Red Box one night, and, while we didn’t expect much, we sure got our money’s worth.
Give the content and trailer a glance on IMDB, and if you like horror movies, give this one a shot.
4. My favorite store-bought exfoliator
Though I make many of my own skin care products, sometimes I need a little extra ‘oomph’ in my exfoliation.
I am a consistent exfoliat-er, as my skin seems to dry easily. I use any number of methods, my favorites being a good washcloth, a rice flour mask, or this product by Derma E.
I’ve been using this for years, and it helps with so much, because it really takes off that top layer of skin so effectively.
From acne, to dryness, to fine lines, this is just an amazing buy.
5. Keep this tea in mind for flu season!
The past few years, I’ve been getting more and more sinus problems.
Whenever I get sick, it seems my sinuses congest no matter what. A neti pot is a good short-term option, but they will inevitably stuff up again within an hour or so.
I’m hoping that this tea by Gaia Herbs will be helpful this year, as it’s packed full of so many beneficial herbs.
What’s even better is that many of these herbs have a double benefit. For example, holy basil and licorice are both also good for adrenals, and thyme and oregano act as antifungals.
Don’t drink this at night, as it contains a touch of caffeine from the green tea.
Favorite blog recipes this week:
These are the recipes from my site that I’ve been making this week (with real life shots)!
It’s hard to pull myself away from this one, I love it so! I have a basil variation as well that I’ll have to share sometime!
My favorite gluten-free crust, and it comes with the added bonus of protein from the lentils.
This really is the best. I’ve even been leaving out the sweetener lately with no problem.
4. Cabbage Soup
A filling, but still lower calorie meal. I like to pair it with a cheese crisp.
These are so energizing! A great pre-workout snack! I made this batch with half sweet potato, half applesauce to cut the starch a bit, and it still worked out great.
