In case you’re new around here, Friday Finds is a more informal post devoted to things I’m enjoying lately.
Books, music, movies, food, beauty…pretty much anything is up for discussion, so I hope you enjoy reading!
For your information, there are a few Amazon affiliate links in this post, but I am not personally affiliated with any of the companies or organizations mentioned. These are just things I truly enjoy!
1. A New Life Development
Let’s get to something I’ve been keeping a bit secret for the last, oh, five months…I’m pregnant with our fourth baby!
I’ve been rather hesitant to reveal this, as I’ve encountered more obstacles during this pregnancy than I ever have with my previous three children.
Incapacitating nausea, dehydrating sickness, scary genetic testing, and nerve-wracking personal hurdles have made up the majority of this time for me, so I’ve been an anxiety-ridden wreck, to put it lightly.
I’m finally at the point of seeing the light, though, so I thought it a good time to share my news here.
I hope to infuse a comment here and there about my journey, but nothing too distracting, as I know most people are just ‘here for the recipes’. 🙂
For those of you interested though, we will be welcoming a baby girl (our third!) in late October!
2. Black Sesame Seeds
Related to the pregnancy, I’ve had some hair loss recently, which is a huge stress trigger for me, as I once lost all of my hair due to sickness.
We mostly attribute the current hair loss to stress and those initial weeks of debilitating sickness, where I was unable to eat properly.
I’ve read that black sesame seeds are great for hair, so I’ve been adding a sprinkle to stir-fries and salads, in hopes to up my mineral content.
I also recently purchased this black sesame seed butter, which tastes very similar to tahini. I’m excited to try it out in some recipes!
3. Danielle Steel Books
Anyone else a Danielle Steel fan?
In need of some recreational reading to take my mind off of my own troubles and help me get through a treadmill workout, I picked up one of her books randomly at the library.
I used to think she was a racy writer, alluding to heaving bosoms and whatnot, but she’s actually quite clean!
Her stories have great depth, and while they often start out sad, she leads characters to happy endings, and I feel a personal fulfillment for these fictitious people, as strange as that sounds.
If you try a book, may I recommend starting with Friends Forever?
4. Bobby Schuller
With my trials the last few months, I feel compelled to mention pastor Bobby Schuller, who has a show called Hour of Power on TBN, airing Saturday nights.
Without getting into particulars, I’ve not attended church much in my adult life, so I often seek out people on TV to listen to or inspirational books I like to read. Sometimes, it’s just reading the Bible, but it can be enjoyable to listen to others as well.
I really like this guy.
He speaks about fear and faith quite a bit, which hits home with me, especially with all of my recent baby stress.
I got one of his CDs, titled Face Your Fears, which has been very helpful, so I thought I’d mention it here!
I’ve needed some major calming during this time, so, in addition to copious amounts of magnesium, chamomile tea has found a permanent place on my tea shelf.
I once read that chamomile is similar to Valium in its relaxation properties, so that initially got me interested. I also read that chamomile has a positive effect on the thyroid, another area I’ve had trouble with lately.
If you are suffering from any type of anxiety, give this cheap and easy herb a go!
