I am in awe of this recipe.
Who would have thought that you could take fruit and make it taste like an actual margarita? Not me.
This recipe actually came about by accident after a failed smoothie attempt.
I've been playing around with it for about a year or more, waiting for the 'right' time to share it, which would seem to be now as the weather heats up and cold drinks and smoothies are more appealing.
To be honest, I'm not now and have never been a big drinker, though I do get the occasional desire for a mimosa.
We all have a few college stories, I'm sure, that revolve around stupidity, vodka-infused watermelons, and seeing your breakfast come up in the bathtub, but I think that goes without saying (or reliving, for that matter). P.s. I couldn't eat oatmeal for months after said incident. 😉
My time for such occurrences was very short-lived, however, as fitness, health, and sleep took a front seat to debaucherous partying and liver-destroying cocktails.
That's why I love this recipe!
It combines the healthy girl I want to be with the occasional craving I want to satisfy.
While my sporadic alcoholic urges typically revolve around champagne, I never overlook the allure of a fruity, icy concoction, probably because they often end up tasting more like a dessert than something containing alcohol.
And who would turn down a good, healthy strawberry dessert? Not me.

Notes:
As stated in the recipe, add in a dash or two of stevia (or a bit more sweetener) to enhance the sweetness (I do!).
The key, in my opinion, for this recipe is the white pith from the grapefruit...
...it adds that certain alcoholic 'je ne sais quoi' that really makes you feel like you're at your favorite Mexican food restaurant or on some tropical vacation in the Caribbean.
What are your favorite alcoholic drinks?
If any of you try this recipe, I'd love to know what you think, so please drop me a comment. 🙂

My drinking days didn't last long either. We lived in Prague for a year when I was 22 and basically partied the whole time. That year was pretty much the end of drinking for both of us! I'm with you on the champagne, except it tends to aggravate my asthma. Bummer! This drink looks right up my alley! Fresh fruit and no booze. 🙂

YUM!!!! we think alike. i made homemade strawberry daiquiris this weekend also (except i added rum). i don't like "too sweet" drinks. i also like making margaritas! the ingredients are simple: 2oz tequila, 1oz fresh lime juice, 1/2oz agave (i do a quick squirt), that's it. shake and serve in a salt/pepper/sugar rimmed glass 🙂
