These deliciously flavored, crispy garlic parmesan pita chips are a perfect snack for hummus-dipping or snacking on with lunch or dinner!

I came up with these one night when I was in need of something a little fun and extra for dinner.
I was serving a meat and large salad, but I knew the kids would appreciate some type of fun carb. Once I spotted the leftovers pitas, I created what has become a repeat recipe!
Sam, in particular, loves these pita chips. He'll make them himself without the olive oil or garlic, though I think they're better with it.
It's a quick and easy recipe that makes a great snack or accoutrement to another meal.
Ingredients and substitutions

- Whole wheat pita bread - White pita bread could also be used. I get mine super cheap from Trader Joe's, and there's no sketchy ingredients added.
- Olive oil - I've also used melted butter, which is delicious!
- Garlic - I use fresh, but dried could also work (maybe even better!).
- Italian seasoning
- Grated parmesan
Directions
Begin by cutting each pita into eight slices with a knife or pizza cutter.
Next, mix the oil, garlic, and Italian seasoning together in a bowl.
At this point, you can either use a silicone brush and spread the garlic oil onto the front and back of each slice or toss the pita slices in a bowl with the oil.

I tend to do the latter, though it's not the 'prettier' way to do it, as the pita bread can fall apart a bit. If you're concerned about looks, use the brush technique.
The last step is to sprinkle the parmesan over the top of each slice and bake!

Serving suggestions
The most popular way to serve pita chips is with hummus, for which I have the following recipes:
You could also try them with my Cottage Cheese Guacamole Dip, this Homemade Salsa recipe, or even (if you brave!) my Smoky Sardine Dip.
Recipe tips
Something I discovered after I took the step-by-step photos is to brush the oil/garlic mixture onto the pita bread BEFORE cutting them into slices. So much easier! I've updated the recipe card to reflect this, though the above photos show me slicing them first.
If you're trying to watch your fat intake, try using an olive oil spray.
