Cottage Cheese Guacamole Dip

Have you ever tried putting cottage cheese in guacamole? That’s essentially what we’re making, and it’s insanely delicious!

This recipe has ‘been in the family’ for two generations now, having been passed down from my mom to me.

She adapted it from her friend in college that originally used sour cream. My mom wanted to use cottage cheese in place of the sour cream, and a new, divine (higher protein) delight was born!

The cottage cheese actually adds a nice texture that you don’t get with sour cream, and I personally like the taste better.

Cottage cheese also amps up the protein factor, making this feel much more healthy when you’re scooping it up with fried tortilla chips, lol.

Ingredients needed

Cottage cheese, avocado, onion, lemon, garlic, and tomato on a table.

The base of this dip is cottage cheese, which is combined with a simple avocado mash.

The mash is essentially guacamole, and consists of avocado, onion, garlic, lemon juice (I prefer it to lime), and chopped tomato.

Salt and pepper round out the flavors.

How to make cottage cheese guacamole dip

First, you want to mash a ripe avocado well, as if you were making guacamole. (Read this article on how to tell if your avocado is ripe!)

Add in the remaining ingredients and mix well.

We enjoy this most with tortilla chips, but raw veggies would also suffice.

Recipe variations

Full-fat or low-fat cottage cheese will work for this recipe.

I prefer lemon juice, but you can also try lime juice.

Other additions might include chopped cilantro and/or jalapeno pepper.
