Creamy Tahini Date Shake - A sweet and creamy smoothie that makes a delicious treat or midday snack, NO banana needed! Nut-free, dairy-free.
I know this recipe is a bit different, but would you believe I've had it on the blog for almost ten years!
This shake was a random make for me back then, but I loved it! The tahini and dates are a match made in heaven. It reminds me of some kind of gourmet drink you'd get at a coffee shop.
It's thick and frothy, and it also makes a great treat!
The addition of tahini adds richness, while dates add a natural sweetness.
If I could only reach through the computer and give you all a taste, you'd be hooked!
What is tahini?
If you don't know, tahini is basically sesame seeds ground up into sesame seed butter, akin to peanut butter. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that tahini tastes a bit like bitter peanut butter.
It's quite high in calcium and is a staple ingredient in hummus, though I happen to have a Tahini-Free Hummus, if you're interested!
At first bite, I hated tahini!
Over the years, however, I've grown to appreciate it, and it is simply delicious in this creamy drink.
I like to use the Trader Joe's brand, as it's both delicious and economical, but this post is a great resource for learning about some of the top tahini brands.

Notes:
Nutmeg is one of my favorite spices, and it adds a great flavor here! It's quite reminiscent of eggnog. You can also use cinnamon if you prefer.
To avoid having to soak your dates for future smoothies, read my post on How To Soften Dates For Recipes.

You should try the Pure2Raw Girls thin mints…amazing! As for tahini milk..start experimenting with other nut butters…pecan butter is particularly delicious as a milk…:-)

I just got a food processor, so I have been making my own nut butter (so far almond and cashew) .. and using it in basically every snack. It could turn into a bad habit if I don't exhibit self control!
